Scorching Heat, Loadshedding Drive Lahore Residents to Canal
According to local residents, several residential sectors across Lahore are experiencing loadshedding of five hours or more daily, disrupting routine life and disabling cooling appliances such as fans, coolers, and air conditioners. Families, including women and children, have been seen wading into the cool canal waters, picnicking on the banks, and even chilling fruits like mangoes and watermelons in the water to escape the oppressive weather. One resident explained, "The heat has become unbearable, and the canal's cold water provides comfort. That is why so many families have come here despite the risks."
However, the rush to the canal has raised safety alarms as the city administration has reiterated a ban on swimming and bathing, citing drowning and disease risks. Weather authorities predict a drop in temperatures with moderate rainfall expected by Thursday, which may bring some relief.
