Lahore Colony Living in Dirty Water
Residents of Hakim Town in Green Town Bagrian, Lahore say they have been living alongside raw sewage for eight months, with broken gutters flooding their homes and spreading disease. The area's drainage system, locals say, is completely dysfunctional, causing wastewater to seep directly into households.
"Our small children are getting sick, and we ourselves have fallen ill too," a resident told. "You can see the water is still standing at our homes. Since these gutters were built, they have caused us great hardship. We request that someone please help us and get this cleaned up."
Residents say multiple complaints to local authorities have been ignored. "They come here, look around, and leave. No work is done," another resident said. Contaminated water regularly enters kitchens and living spaces, forcing families to buy outside food. "One day's wage is spent on one meal, and sometimes there isn't even a wage for one meal. We are very distressed."
The residents appealed directly to Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz. "Our area needs to be cleaned up," one said. "We have complained many times, but no one does anything." Local officials could not be immediately reached for comment.
