Iran-US Technical Talks to Resume Next Week; Pakistan Calls Continued Dialogue a Positive Sign
According to the Foreign Office spokesperson, the continuation of dialogue between both sides is itself a positive development. Pakistan believes in diplomacy and constructive dialogue as the best path toward resolving regional tensions.
During the weekly media briefing, the spokesperson revealed that Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian visited Pakistan at the invitation of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. The Iranian president was accompanied by a high-level delegation, which held meetings with the Prime Minister, the Army Chief, and other senior leadership.
The spokesperson said bilateral trade relations were also discussed during the visit. Following the potential easing of economic sanctions on Iran, opportunities for enhanced Pakistan-Iran economic and trade cooperation were explored.
Regarding the gas pipeline project, the spokesperson stated that while specific details were not available, all related matters were discussed during the meetings.
He further disclosed that talks between Iran and the United States were held in Bürgenstock, where Pakistan and Qatar participated as mediators. Several important points were discussed, and the technical teams from Pakistan and Qatar remain in contact with both sides to facilitate further progress.
The spokesperson welcomed international appreciation for Pakistan’s mediatory role, stating that global confidence in Pakistan continues to grow. He also praised Pakistani media for demonstrating professionalism and helping promote trust-building throughout the diplomatic process.
Additionally, the Foreign Office noted that on June 18, Pakistan joined other countries in issuing a joint statement condemning Israeli attacks. This week, Pakistan also assisted in the repatriation of 30 Iranian nationals who had been detained in the United Kingdom and the United States.
