Pakistan Calls for Stronger Global Law Enforcement Cooperation at UN Police Chiefs Summit
Addressing the United Nations Chiefs of Police Summit (UNCOPS) in New York on Thursday (July 9), Pakistan’s Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi said it was an honor to welcome ministers, police chiefs, and distinguished delegates from around the world to the important gathering.
He noted that the world today faces a range of shared security challenges that transcend national borders, including terrorism, organized crime, cybercrime, drug trafficking, human trafficking, and money laundering. He emphasized that no country is immune to these threats and that no nation can effectively address them alone.
The Interior Minister stressed that international cooperation has become more critical than ever in responding to evolving global security challenges. He urged countries to work collectively, build mutual trust, exchange information promptly, and support one another in strengthening global security.
Mohsin Naqvi underscored the need to establish stronger partnerships among law enforcement agencies worldwide, saying criminals are rapidly adopting new technologies to facilitate their activities. He called on police organizations to stay ahead by embracing advanced technologies, enhancing officers' capabilities, strengthening professional training, and promoting innovation in policing.
Highlighting the significance of the summit, the minister said experienced leaders from across the world had gathered to share valuable knowledge and practical experience. He encouraged participants to exchange ideas, learn from each other's successes, and explore new avenues of cooperation.
He described the United Nations as a unique platform for fostering international collaboration and thanked UN Police Adviser Faisal Shakar for providing an opportunity for counterparts and partners to come together.
Mohsin Naqvi said the summit unites nations around a common objective of making their countries safer while reinforcing peace and security across the world, adding that the forum plays a vital role in protecting people and promoting global stability.
