Earthquake Jolts Balochistan’s Barkhan and Nearby Areas, Triggers Panic Among Residents
According to the Seismological Center, the earthquake measured 5.2 on the Richter scale with a depth of 19 kilometers. The epicenter was located 58 kilometers northeast of Barkhan.
Tremors were felt not only in Barkhan but also in Kohlu, Rakhni, and Musa Khel, prompting people to rush out of their homes and buildings in fear.
According to the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), the earthquake caused the roof of a hotel to collapse in Gangri area of Musa Khel, leaving two workers injured. The injured were immediately shifted to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
PDMA further reported that a house belonging to a citizen named Fazal in northern Gangri also collapsed due to the tremors, injuring one person.
Rescue teams and local administration have reached the affected areas, while emergency relief operations are underway. The injured are receiving necessary medical assistance.
Authorities have directed district administrations to assess the damage, accelerate relief activities, and conduct surveys to evaluate any further losses.
It is worth noting that a day earlier, a 4.2 magnitude earthquake was recorded in Sibi district, Balochistan, at a depth of 42 kilometers. However, no casualties or property damage were reported from that incident.
