BAMAKO — Twenty-four Malian soldiers were killed and 27 wounded when militants attacked a patrol in northern Mali on Monday ا
According to the foreign reports,
Neighboring Mali and Niger forces were conducting joint military operations against the militants in the border area of Gao during which a major attack occurred. In this incident 24 personnel of the Mali army were killed and a large number of lives and financial losses were reported.
No organization claimed responsibility for the attack while the Mali government did not divulge the details of the incident, but ISIS is considered strong enough in Mali and it is believed to be involved in the incident.
This is the second major attack on the army in recent times in Mali.
font size="3">The fighting in Tabankort, Gao region, follows an attack on an army post in early November that killed 54 – one of the deadliest strikes against Mali’s military in recent memory, which underscored the increasing reach and sophistication of armed jihadist groups active in the wider region.
Al-Qaeda occupied a vast area in Mali in 2012, after which the French army launched an operation against it and killed many militants.
In Mali, 5 countries have been deployed under the name of 'G5 Coast Force' to counter Al-Qaeda and ISIS. These countries include Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Mauritania and Niger.
