Supreme Court suspends extension of extension of service to Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa
The Supreme Court heard the petition against the extension of the post of Army Chief. Applicant requested withdrawal of application against extension of Army Chief.
The court, while requesting to withdraw the case, said that there was no affidavit with the handwritten application to withdraw the case, it is not known whether the case was being taken independently.
The Attorney General said that the Army Chief is retiring on November 29, his term extension notification has been issued after the President's approval. Chief Justice said to show the President's approval and notification. The Attorney General presented the documents and recommendations of the Prime Minister to the court.
Chief Justice said that extension was written in summary while Army Chief was re-appointed in notification, rules do not have the option of extension or reappointment of Army Chief; Government can only suspend retirement, Army Chief has not retired ۔The Supreme Court suspended the Army Chief's extension notification and automatically turned the application into notice, calling it a matter of public importance.
The court adjourned the hearing till tomorrow, issuing notices to the concerned parties, including the Army Chief.
It should be noted that on August 19, General Qamar Javed Bajwa's term was extended to 3 years. According to a notification issued by the Prime Minister's Office, Prime Minister Imran Khan has appointed General Qamar Javed Bajwa as Army Chief for three more years after the current term has been completed.
