Punjab Police Inquiry Finds SP, SHO Guilty
According to police officials, the inquiry was carried out by Additional Inspector General Imran Mahmood, DIG Nasir Aziz Work, and DIG Imran Kishwar. The inquiry report states that senior officers had directed the arrest of Ghulam Murtaza, during which he was subjected to what was described by police officials as “light physical torture.”
The investigation has held SP City Bilal and SHO Bhati Gate responsible for misconduct. According to the report, both officers took Ghulam Murtaza from the scene to Bhati Gate Police Station, while failing to question other relatives who accompanied him. The officers immediately contacted the woman’s father and also detained one of Ghulam Murtaza’s relatives, Tanveer, at the police station.
The inquiry report further revealed that Ghulam Murtaza was tortured inside the SHO’s office, and evidence was obtained from CCTV footage installed in the room. He was kept in illegal custody for nearly five hours.
The inquiry team also traveled to Shorkot to record Ghulam Murtaza’s statement, in which he alleged that police officers pressured him to confess to killing his wife and daughter.
