Trump Administration’s Immigrant Visa Suspension Challenged
A group of civil rights organizations has filed a lawsuit against the US Department of State in a federal court in New York, contesting the legality of the decision.
According to the petitioners, the policy is severely undermining the decades-old, well-established foundations of US immigration law. They argue that the suspension is unlawful and has caused widespread harm to affected individuals and families.
The lawsuit urges the court to immediately block the Trump administration’s visa policy and declare the decision illegal.
It is noteworthy that the suspension of immigrant visa processing came into effect on January 21. Citizens from several countries have been impacted by the decision, including Pakistan, Afghanistan, Albania, Algeria, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Bangladesh, Belarus, Bhutan, Bosnia, among others.
