Basant Preparations in Lahore in Full Swing
Talking to the media outside the Punjab Assembly, Azma Bokhari said that transport facilities are being provided in every part of Lahore to facilitate citizens during Basant. She added that following a survey in Walled City areas, dilapidated buildings have been sealed, while a clear mechanism for remaining structures will be announced by the chief minister.
Addressing concerns over the high prices of kites and strings, the information minister said that after public complaints, the government has allowed kite-making in four additional districts to meet demand. She noted that kites are available at lower prices in Green Town, and efforts are underway to bridge the gap between supply and demand so that prices come down further.
“Basant equipment will soon become more affordable, allowing everyone to celebrate the festival with joy,” she said, urging citizens to act responsibly. She emphasized that people should not endanger their own lives or those of others and must strictly follow standard operating procedures (SOPs).
Azma Bokhari said that if Basant is celebrated successfully under SOPs this year, the festival will be expanded across Punjab next year. “This is not just Lahore’s Basant. People from all over the country are coming to Lahore to celebrate,” she added.
