Basant Festival Kicks Off with Color
Punjab’s Information Minister Azma Bokhari inaugurated the festival by flying a kite from the rooftop of Delhi Gate. Her participation set the tone for the festivities as chants of “Bo Kata,” the rhythm of dhol beats, and cheerful laughter echoed throughout the city. Lahore’s atmosphere was filled with colors, music, and the spirit of spring.
Youngsters were seen flying kites enthusiastically from rooftops, while kite lovers gathered on streets to watch the aerial battles of soaring and cutting kites. Women also played an active role in the celebrations, adorning their hands with mehndi, wearing colorful traditional outfits, preparing festive delicacies, and flying kites themselves to welcome spring in style.
Streets and neighborhoods across Lahore were decorated with kites, adding to the festive charm. Despite rising inflation, the demand for kites and string remained high, with supplies becoming scarce in several areas.
