Authorities said the attack involved an explosives-laden rickshaw that rammed into the main gate of the police station. In addition, an improvised explosive device (IED) was planted on a motorcycle parked near shops close to the station. The blasts occurred at a time when several shops were open outside the police station, resulting in civilian casualties.
Deputy Inspector General (DIG) Bannu, Sajjad Khan, confirmed that police personnel remained unharmed in the explosion. However, two civilians, including a child, lost their lives in the attack.
The injured were immediately shifted to nearby hospitals, where an emergency was declared to provide urgent medical treatment.
Following the incident, heavy contingents of police and other law enforcement agencies reached the site, cordoned off the area, and launched a search operation. Authorities stated that investigations are underway and those responsible for the attack will be brought to justice.
The explosion has once again raised concerns over security in the region, as law enforcement agencies intensify efforts to maintain peace and stability.
