Rajpal Yadav Granted Bail
The popular comedy star, known for delivering dozens of blockbuster films in the Hindi film industry, had been facing legal challenges in connection with a cheque bounce case involving a settlement dispute. After prolonged proceedings and reported support from members of the film industry, the actor was finally granted conditional bail.
Earlier this month, a Delhi court had directed Yadav to surrender at Tihar Jail after repeatedly violating the terms of a court-approved settlement agreement. Last week, a Delhi court rejected his bail plea, observing that he had failed to pay approximately Rs90 million (around 9 crore rupees) as part of the settlement.
Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma had stated that Yadav’s imprisonment was not merely procedural but resulted from his failure to comply with the terms of a voluntarily agreed settlement.
However, on February 16, the court granted him bail under certain conditions, allowing his temporary release. Further legal proceedings in the matter are expected to continue.
