Lieutenant Colonel, Soldier Martyred in Bannu
The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said security forces had received intelligence regarding a vehicle-borne suicide bomber and were conducting an operation in the area based on the tip-off.
During the operation, militants belonging to what the ISPR referred to as “Fitna al-Khawarij” rammed an explosives-laden vehicle into one of the security forces’ vehicles in the convoy.
As a result of the blast, Lieutenant Colonel Shehzada Gulfraz and Sepoy Karamat Shah embraced martyrdom.
The ISPR stated that security forces responded swiftly and killed five militants during the ensuing operation.
In its statement, the ISPR added that militant activities originating from Afghan territory continue even during the holy month of Ramadan. It said the sanctity of the month being violated by such acts demonstrates that the perpetrators have no connection with the true teachings of Islam. The military’s media wing further stated that the Afghan Taliban government has failed to prevent the use of Afghan soil for terrorist activities against Pakistan.
Security operations in the region are ongoing.
