Gas Leak Confirmed as Cause of North Nazimabad Apartment Explosion
According to officials from the Bomb Disposal Squad, no evidence of a cylinder blast was found at the scene. Investigators did not recover any ruptured gas cylinders or related fragments from the affected apartments.
The incident took place in the North Nazimabad area of Karachi. Officials stated that gas pipelines were installed near the building’s lift shaft, which intensified the impact of the explosion and caused the elevator to collapse.
Bomb Disposal Squad In-charge Abid said preliminary findings suggest that a gas stove may have been left open inside the apartment. When gas supply was restored suddenly, the accumulated gas filled the flat and ignited, resulting in a powerful explosion.
The blast occurred in residential apartments located in Block E of North Nazimabad. Following the explosion, a fire broke out, claiming the life of a child and injuring four others.
Authorities have urged residents to ensure proper handling of gas appliances and to immediately report suspected leaks to prevent similar incidents in the future.
