Son assaults elderly parents
According to police sources, the disturbing incident came to light after a video statement of the distressed elderly couple went viral on social media. Taking immediate notice, City Police Officer (CPO) Rawalpindi Khalid Hamdani directed SHO Jatli to register a case and ensure the immediate arrest of the suspect.
Police subsequently arrested the accused, identified as Muhammad Akhlaq.
In her video statement, the victim, Khalida Noor, said she is a housewife with one son, Muhammad Akhlaq, and a daughter who has passed away. She alleged that her son had repeatedly assaulted both her and her husband, Noor Hassan. She further claimed that he confiscated their money and her late daughter’s jewelry, while her daughter-in-law allegedly stood by holding a pistol during the abuse.
The elderly couple stated that they were locked inside a room for two days and later expelled from their home on the third day. They are currently staying at another residence. According to the mother, the accused threatened them to transfer their land in his wife’s name or face continued violence. She added that her husband had already dedicated the land to a mosque, which allegedly angered their son.
The victims have appealed for legal action and justice.
Meanwhile, Jatli Police confirmed the arrest of the suspect for assaulting his parents, unlawfully confining them, and issuing death threats. SP Saddar Anum Sher stated that all legal requirements will be fulfilled to ensure strict punishment for the accused, adding that violence or mistreatment against parents is deeply condemnable.
