Indian Fighter Jet Crashes
According to officials, the Russian-made Sukhoi Su-30MKI aircraft went down near the Karbi region while on a routine training flight. The aircraft had taken off from the Jorhat area but lost radar contact at approximately 7:42 PM local time.
Search and rescue operations were immediately launched to locate the aircraft and its crew. Initial reports from Indian media indicated that the fighter jet disappeared from radar shortly after takeoff, prompting an emergency response.
The Su-30MKI fleet was inducted into the Indian Air Force in the early 2000s and has since been considered one of the backbone fighter aircraft in India’s aerial defense capabilities.
Reports also highlight that over the past three decades, the Indian Air Force has experienced more than 550 aviation accidents, resulting in the deaths of over 150 pilots. Defense analysts attribute many of these incidents to factors such as technical failures, human error, maintenance issues, and aging aircraft.
