Pakistan Launches 5G Spectrum Auction to Introduce High-Speed Internet
The auction ceremony was attended by Muhammad Aurangzeb (Federal Minister for Finance), Shaza Fatima Khawaja (Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication), Attaullah Tarar (Federal Minister for Information), and Hafeez ur Rehman, Chairman of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority.
During the launch, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) offered 600 MHz of spectrum for the 5G auction. The first round of bidding will run for 60 minutes, with three eligible telecom companies participating in the bidding process.
Speaking at the event, Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb said the government’s efforts to launch 5G technology have finally succeeded, adding that a complete ecosystem has been prepared to support the rollout.
He emphasized that Pakistan is moving toward emerging technologies such as Blockchain and Artificial Intelligence, and the spectrum auction will help boost IT exports and significantly improve digital connectivity across the country.
