Trump Warns NATO’s Future
In a recent interview, Trump said the United States is currently in contact with Iran, but he believes Tehran is not ready to reach an agreement at this stage. He revealed that Washington is in discussions with nearly seven countries to ensure the security and continued operation of the key global shipping route.
According to Trump, Israel is already cooperating with the United States on efforts to protect the waterway. He stressed that countries benefiting from the route must also share responsibility for keeping it safe.
Trump further warned that if NATO member states refuse to assist in securing the Strait of Hormuz, the alliance could face serious consequences in the future.
president also suggested that his planned meeting with Xi Jinping, the leader of China, scheduled for later this month, might be delayed. He said the meeting would only be meaningful if nations benefiting from the Hormuz shipping lane commit to helping safeguard it.
Earlier, Trump had urged several countries—including South Korea, Japan, France, China, and the United Kingdom—to deploy naval vessels to the region to help protect global oil shipments passing through the Strait of Hormuz.
