High-Octane Fuel Prices Surge
According to an official statement from the Prime Minister’s Office, a high-level meeting chaired by Shehbaz Sharif was held via video link, where the decision was finalized. The move targets the wealthiest segment of society that uses high-end vehicles requiring premium fuel.
The Prime Minister took notice of the relatively lower levy on high-octane fuel and directed authorities to increase it substantially. As a result, the existing levy of Rs. 100 per liter has been raised by an additional Rs. 200, bringing the total levy to Rs. 300 per liter.
Following this increase, the total levy on high-octane fuel has reached approximately Rs. 305.37 per liter, pushing the new price of High Octane Blending Component (HOBC) to around Rs. 535 per liter across the country.
The decision is part of broader economic measures aimed at placing a greater financial burden on affluent consumers while supporting fiscal stability.
