The price hike comes at a time when rising electricity tariffs and frequent announced and unannounced load shedding have already forced many to shift toward alternative energy sources. However, the recent surge in solar equipment costs has added to their financial burden, leaving many struggling to cope.
Market experts warn that ongoing tensions in the Middle East and rising global oil prices could further worsen Pakistan’s energy crisis, significantly impacting consumers’ purchasing power.
Solar equipment vendors say that the price of solar panels has jumped by around Rs. 3,000 per plate almost overnight. They attribute this increase to higher fuel costs and disruptions in supply routes, which have driven up transportation expenses.
Additionally, import challenges linked to the unstable situation in the Middle East have contributed to the rising costs. Despite the increase in prices, sellers claim they are not benefiting, as consumer demand has sharply declined.
