Crackdown on Illegal Pakistani Citizenship
During a visit to the headquarters of National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), the minister chaired a high-level meeting where the Chairman of NADRA briefed him on the organization’s performance, ongoing initiatives, and future projects.
The Interior Minister appreciated NADRA’s improved performance and efficient public service delivery, noting significant progress over the past two years. He emphasized that individuals who have unlawfully obtained Pakistani citizenship must be identified and removed from official records.
Mohsin Naqvi also instructed that state-of-the-art NADRA offices should be established on owned land instead of rented buildings, and requested a comprehensive master plan for this transition. He assured full ministerial support and coordination with relevant departments.
During the briefing, NADRA officials highlighted several reforms aimed at improving citizen services. These include introducing facial recognition-based biometric verification systems, which will require collaboration with other institutions.
Officials further revealed that NADRA has already canceled identity cards of hundreds of thousands of deceased individuals. To streamline services, a 30-day resolution timeframe has been set for identity card-related issues.
