Farooq Sattar Demands Public Release of Gul Plaza Tragedy Inquiry Report
Speaking to the media outside the Sindh Information Commission, Dr. Farooq Sattar said the Gul Plaza tragedy remains one of Karachi’s most devastating incidents, in which more than 84 citizens lost their lives and over 200 were injured.
He stated that despite the passage of one year, the affected families are still waiting for justice.
Farooq Sattar emphasized that bringing all facts related to such tragedies before the public and identifying those responsible is both a legal and moral duty of state institutions.
He further said that the four-volume inquiry commission report reportedly contains references to the alleged negligence and failures of several government officials and concerned departments. However, neither the victims’ families nor the public have been given access to the report so far.
According to Dr. Sattar, transparency and accountability require that the report be made public, so that responsibility can be fixed and justice can be delivered to the victims and their families.
He stressed that releasing the report would help ensure accountability and prevent similar tragedies in the future.
