Cargo Plane Bound for Karachi Goes Missing Over Arabian Sea, Search Operation Underway
According to a spokesperson for the Pakistan Airports Authority (PAA), the K2 Airways Boeing 737 cargo aircraft disappeared from radar approximately 155 nautical miles west of Karachi. The aircraft was carrying five crew members at the time of the incident.
The PAA said the aircraft experienced a navigation system malfunction, after which the Karachi Area Control Centre provided immediate guidance to the flight crew. However, within minutes, the aircraft reportedly began losing altitude rapidly, made a sudden change in direction, and then lost communication with air traffic controllers.
The spokesperson confirmed that the aircraft disappeared from radar at 9:21 a.m. Pakistan Standard Time, triggering an emergency response.
A Rescue Coordination Centre (RCC) was immediately activated, and search-and-rescue operations are currently underway in the Arabian Sea.
According to official sources, the Pakistan Navy has dispatched the warship PNS Zulfiqar to the suspected area, while the Pakistan Air Force has deployed a SAAB surveillance aircraft from PAF Base Bholari to assist in the aerial search operation.
Authorities have not yet confirmed the fate of the aircraft or its crew. Rescue teams continue to search the area, and further updates are awaited.
