Imran Khan Challenge Verdict in Supreme Court £190 Million Case
According to details, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Bushra Bibi approached the Supreme Court after the Islamabad High Court rejected their appeals for suspension of sentence.
In their petitions, they argued that rejecting the suspension request was against the principles of justice. They stated that although the petition was declared maintainable, important legal points of the case were ignored.
The petition further stated that Imran Khan developed eyesight-related health issues during imprisonment and had to be shifted outside jail for treatment.
The applications claim that despite serious health concerns, both Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi were denied release, which they described as unjust. They also alleged that solitary confinement caused severe mental distress to both.
The petition argued that the suspension plea was deliberately delayed, despite the fact that bail had been granted during the trial and the allegations were previously termed baseless.
The appeal submitted to the Supreme Court stated that courts are legally permitted to review case merits while deciding sentence suspension. It argued that rejecting the plea without a preliminary review of evidence was legally flawed.
The petition also accused National Accountability Bureau of repeatedly seeking adjournments, causing delays in justice.
PTI maintained that the arrest of Imran Khan and Bushra Bibi was illegal and irresponsible, noting that a higher court had earlier ordered release over unlawful arrest concerns.
The plea further alleged that accountability proceedings were politically motivated and requested the Supreme Court to declare the High Court order null and void, suspend the sentence, and order their release.
