Pakistan Cuts Petrol Price by PKR 1.97 per Litre; JI Announces Nationwide Protest
The Government of Pakistan has reduced the price of petrol by PKR 1.97 per litre, effective July 4, 2026, for the next week.
According to a notification issued by the Ministry of Energy, the new petrol price has been set at PKR 297.53 per litre, down from the previous PKR 299.50 per litre. The revised prices will remain in effect for one week under the government's latest fuel price adjustment.
Meanwhile, Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman, the chief of Jamaat-e-Islami Pakistan, strongly criticized the government's decision, calling the reduction "insufficient" and "anti-public."
He announced that the party will launch nationwide protest demonstrations within the next 48 hours, demanding a substantial reduction in petroleum prices.
Hafiz Naeem ur Rehman stated that fuel prices in Pakistan should reflect international market rates before recent geopolitical tensions and accused the government of failing to provide meaningful relief despite lower global oil prices. He described the modest reduction of PKR 1.97 per litre as "disappointing" and claimed that the government was denying citizens the financial relief they deserve.
The announcement comes as rising fuel costs continue to impact transportation, inflation, and the overall cost of living across Pakistan.
